Nintendo's coverage of the Switch online service during the latest Direct broadcast briefly summarised what was in store for subscribers.

When Nintendo officially unveiled the online service this week, the announcement confirmed that just as expected, fans would need to pay a subscription fee to play games like Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, and Smash Bros.

The Nintendo Direct presentation kicked off with a short clip from the upcoming Luigi Mansion game, which is called, Luigi's Mansion 3.

In addition to the above hardware releases, quite a few big name games for the Switch were revealed.

Plus, if the roster of fighters wasn't already bursting at the seams, Isabelle from Animal Crossing will be entering the fray, bringing the total number of characters up to 74.

One of the Nintendo Switch's greatest asset is its portability, so it seems odd to not allow its players to be away from Internet more than a week to play NES games.

The controller will be available for Switch owners from September 18.

Nintendo's rather convoluted online service is officially launching next week, which includes some unusual and non-user friendly decisions that have plagued the company's expansion into the online world for years.

You can pick up New Super Mario Bros.

A new phone app also lets players voice chat on certain games.

Additionally, Nintendo clarified how access to the digital library of NES games will work.
