Browns release wide receiver Josh Gordon

So while an 0-16 no longer wants Gordon after putting up with his troubles for six years, there's a handful of other teams that will happily accept his talent.

The Browns announced they will release wideout Josh Gordon. Team doctors evaluated Gordon's injury Saturday and were concerned that he was battling substance abuse issues, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

It's unclear if there was a major incident that led to the Browns decision to release Gordon, but reports are coming in that he showed up late to the team facility Saturday and was "not himself".

"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday", general manager John Dorsey said in a statement. "We wish Josh well".

Even with Gordon's multiple suspensions and missed time rendering him a third-year veteran, he has accrued enough National Football League service to be a free agent then.

On Saturday, Gordon was ruled OUT for this weekend's game due to a hamstring injury, but clearly that wasn't the only concern for members of the front office.

Gordon has dealt with multiple drug and alcohol-related suspensions since 2015, and today got the ax after he reported late to practice, complaining of a hamstring injury.

Gordon had just rejoined the team on August 18.

Gordon, who has played in just 11 games since 2013 due to substance abuse issues, caught one pass for 17 yards in Cleveland's 21-21 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, but it was a big one.

Josh Gordon's time with the Cleveland Browns is over.
