Nintendo unveils $60 wireless NES controllers for the Switch

Nintendo's long-awaited online service finally has a launch date.

Today Nintendo hosted a "Nintendo Direct", a special stream that Nintendo hosts when the company has an (or several) announcement to make, typically for new consoles and games.

Nintendo has announced the upcoming launch of a wireless controller for the Nintendo Switch, one that is created to look like the original controller included with the NES.

As for the NES-style Joycons, Nintendo will start selling them exclusively to Switch Online subscribers on 18 September for $60 a pair. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.

Joy-Con will be fully compatible with these games - but for those who want their controller input a little more angular, Nintendo's got you covered here.

It may well be the last Direct of the year, so if it is then it will certainly also feature Super Smash Bros. It also connects with games such to show off in-game stats and other data, and can enhance the experience of the title like Splatnet 2 for Splatoon 2. Afterwards, it will no longer be possible to unlink your Nintendo Account from your Nintendo Switch user profile. For individual memberships, one, three and 12-month subscriptions will cost $3.99, $7.99 and $19.99, respectively. All newcomers to the service can test it out with a one-week free trial via the Switch eShop.
