Tottenham Hotspur's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris faces a fine and a ban after being caught driving in London at more than twice the legal drink-driving limit.

The 31-year-old, of East Finchley, pleaded guilty when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The Daily Mail tabloid said Lloris registered 100 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in a police check.

Hugo Lloris is expected to be picked for Tottenham's blockbuster clash with Liverpool if he is fit, despite admitting to drink-driving.

The court heard police in an unmarked auto spotted Lloris' Porsche Panamera driving at 15mph (24kph) in a 30mph (48kph) zone.

The magistrate said the fine represented the seriousness of the offence as well as the goalkeeper's financial means.

"It veered a number of times towards parked vehicles, almost clipping them, before correcting itself".

"It was pure luck that you did not cause damage to other vehicles or pedestrians in the central London area".

He has also won more than 100 global caps and lifted the World Cup eight weeks ago after France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final in Moscow.

For the defence, David Sonn said Lloris' "spectacular fall from grace was not lost" on the goalkeeper. "I made a mistake, I have to accept it".

Lloris, who made his way into the court building flanked by two members of his entourage, left the building without comment.

Lloris missed Tottenham's 2-1 defeat to Watford with the injury, as well as France's recent global games against Germany and the Netherlands and he says he's not sure if he'll be fit for the match at Wembley at lunchtime on Saturday.

Lloris, who joined Spurs from Olympique Lyonnais in 2012, apologised for the incident after he was charged by the Metropolitan Police last month.
