Burt Reynolds dies at the age of 82

Burt Reynolds, the star of Deliverance, The Longest Yard and Boogie Nights, has died, aged 82.

News reported that Reynolds died of cardiac arrest, according to his agent, Todd Eisner.

The actor had struggled with health issues in recent years and underwent major heart surgery in February 2010.

He starred in films such as Deliverance and Boogie Nights.

"It didn't make as much money as a lot of the others", Reynolds said. Reynolds had also been in relationships with Dinah Shore, Inger Stevens, Chris Evert, Judy Carne, Loni Anderson, and mentioned dating Hawn and Farrah Fawcett in his memoir.

After he returned to his football roots in The Longest Yard, he showed off all of that charm in the blockbuster film, Smokey and the Bandit, as a charming smuggler bringing a truck filled with Coors cross country to Georgia (at the time, Coors was not allowed to be sold East of the Mississippi). For his efforts, the Academy nominated him for a Best Supporting Actor trophy.

Reynold's singular, inimitable brand of suave masculinity slowly went out of popular style over the years, and a string of recent auctions featuring his possessions would indicate a few financial struggles along the way. After graduating from Palm Beach High School in West Palm Beach, Reynolds attended Florida State University, where he played football. That "was the closest to me, in terms of, I see myself in that character and it was a classic film", Reynolds told USA TODAY. Reynolds turned his attention to acting, moving to NY, where he struggled for several years until he landed a role in a revival of Mr. Roberts starring Charlton Heston in 1956. In the movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, Reynolds was to play George Spahn, the blind rancher who owned the property that Charles Manson and his followers were living on when they hatched their most infamous murders. Reynolds continued to support Florida State after becoming a big-time Hollywood star and was often spotted on the sidelines or in the stands during gameday.

Reynolds has also become well known for the roles that he turned down over the years. "I don't know if it's the best acting I've done, but it's the best movie I've ever been in".

In the 1990s and 2000s, Burt Reynolds mostly hit a drought, but he found great success playing a porn director and mogul in Boogie Nights, a performance that won him a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination, losing the latter award to Robin Williams for his turn in Good Will Hunting.
