An Emirates airline flight from Dubai was quarantined at New York's John F Kennedy worldwide airport on Wednesday morning after as many as 100 passengers and crew reported feeling ill, authorities said.

Earlier reports claimed that the number was around 100, however an Emirates spokesperson later put that number at closer to 10.

Rapper Vanilla Ice was one of 520 passengers aboard a plane traveling to New York's Kenneday Airport from Dubai that had to be quarantined upon arrival because about 100 passengers felt ill.

Emirates airline said on Wednesday that 10 passengers were taken ill on a flight to NY to Dubai. "The safety & care of our customers is our first priority", the carrier said in a statement. They had their temperatures taken on the tarmac and were then transported by bus to the airport terminal, where they made their way through customs.

The CDC noted in a statement that passengers "complained of illness including cough and some with fever", adding that health officials and local authorities were taking their temperatures and transporting those who were sick to a hospital.

Erin Sykes, a passenger from NY who was traveling on the flight, told The National that people on the flight "were coughing and were sick to their stomachs".

"Nine passengers underwent additional medical screening at the site near the aircraft and were released afterwards", said an Emirates spokeswoman.

Larry Coben, an unconfirmed passenger on the flight, has been tweeting his experience and has since deplaned.

"Health officials are processing tests now to determine the cause", Phillips continued, adding: "Symptoms still pointing to the flu".

Emirates Flight 203, an Airbus A380, had 521 passengers on board.

Seven crew members and five passengers were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a Port Authority source said. "The CDC will provide further updates as they become available".
