Skype call recording feature now available for iOS, Android and Windows users

Microsoft is also removing the "Highlights" feature which was added to Skype past year and was inspired by photo-messaging app Snapchat. The Chats, Calls, and Contacts buttons are moved to the bottom of the mobile app for more efficiency, and the Highlights and Capture features are removed completely for a cleaner look.

To this effect, the company announced that it would roll back the Snapchat-like Highlights feature that was introduced previous year.

Skype has dropped a feature similar to Snapchat and Instagram's "Story" highlight reels, in a back-to-basics redesign/update prioritizing "simplicity".

Fortunately, 2018's redesign sees Microsoft "take a step back and simplify", introducing "simplified navigation", streamlined contacts and a fresh look all while removing the clutter that nearly no one uses. The new interface brings back the Skype "Classic" blue theme, and easy Contacts discovery. That, however, was met with backlash from users who loved the original Skype app too much.

Calling became harder to execute and "Highlights" didn't resonate with a majority of users.

After the call is over, the full recording is posted to your chat, where it will remain accessible for 30 days.

Desktop users will see a navigation menu that will be familiar to mobile users with buttons for Chats, Calls, Contacts, and Notifications on the top left of the Skype Window. If you want to store it for longer, you can simply download and save the video locally.

When it announced the June 2017 updates, Microsoft told the BBC: "We know this was a big change and we welcome feedback along the way".

KitGuru Says: While I'm not the biggest fan of Skype, or its continuously confusing amount of changes, I can appreciate that Microsoft has quite the task on its hands to keep up with modern competition.
