ABC has since announced a new spinoff series based on the fictional blue-collar family, "The Conners", which will not feature Ms. Barr.

Goodman prefaced his comment by saying the fate of the Roseanne character is still 'unknown, ' but she's dead, right?

I thank John Goodman for speaking truth about me, despite facing certain peril from producers and network.

After a successful revival on ABC 22 years after the conclusion of the original series in 1996, the network chose to reverse its renewal decision for a potential eleventh season after series star Roseanne Barr tweeted racist comments about Valerie Jarrett, former adviser to President Barack Obama. "I know for a fact that she's not a racist", he said of Barr.

"It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible".

"I guess he'll be mopey and sad because his wife's dead", Goodman said of his blue-collar hero character Dan, in an interview with the Sunday Times.

When asked about the network's reaction to the situation, he said, "I was surprised".

It looks like The Conners will handle the absence of their matriarch in the only way that makes sense for the series - by killing off Roseanne Barr's famous character.

He also expressed that he was "surprised" by ABC's quick decision to axe the show. "And that's probably all I should say about that ..."

On Monday, Barr, 65, tweeted her appreciation towards Goodman.

The ratings-hit Roseanne reboot was abruptly canceled May 29 after Barr's racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama.

In a new interview with The Times, Goodman revealed that after the series was canceled he went through a period of depression, saying he was "broken-hearted" by Barr's actions and the ending of the series.

"I sent her an email and thanked her for that", Goodman said. "And she's still going through hell", Goodman said.
