Australian Teen Hacky Hack Hacks Apple's Servers, Steals 90GB Worth Of Secure Data

For a teenager to hack into Apple's corporate network is no small deal since Apple is known to take security very seriously. He told others about his exploits on WhatsApp, and stored the stolen data in a folder named "hacky hack hack".

The unnamed teenager is said to have accessed the company's servers multiple times over the course of a year, eventually stealing 90GB of "secure files" whose contents are now unknown. The teen's defense attorney claims that the hacker accessed Apple's servers because he loved the Cupertino company and had always dreamed of working for them.

Despite the court being told that the teenager had downloaded 90GB of secure files and accessed customer accounts, Apple - the world's most valuable company - has denied that customers were affected.

At Apple's request, authorities did not go into detail regarding the methods the teen used to break into the secure servers. However, Apple managed to outsmart the teenager by logging the serial numbers of the Macbooks that were used to attack Apple's servers. According to The Age, Apple reported the teen to the FBI after detecting external access, and USA authorities then alerted Australian Federal Police, which obtained a warrant to raid the teen's family home past year.

The prosecution said that during a raid on the boy's house, "two Apple laptops were seized and the serial numbers matched the serial numbers of the devices which accessed the internal systems". The teen reportedly did this "because he was such a fan of Apple".

A mobile phone and hard drive were also seized whose IP address matched those detected in the breaches, he added.

On Thursday, he pleaded guilty in an Australian children's court.

His name could not be made public and he will be sentenced next month.
