Here are some of the best tracks by acclaimed singer Aretha Franklin

Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has died at 76.

It was a fitting moment, as well, as Franklin worked tirelessly over the years, fighting for civil rights, her cover of the hit "Respect" becoming an anthem for the movement in the 1960's and for women's rights.

Publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told The Associated Press through a family statement that Franklin died on Thursday at 9:50am at her home in Detroit.

"She will be missed but the memory of her greatness as a musician and a fine human being will live with us forever", McCartney tweeted, while Starr sent "peace and love to her family". Thank you for your compassion and prayers. Her popularity stayed strong with "Freeway Of Love", and the George Michael duet "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)". "As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this hard time", the family's statement continued.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days, the statement said, according to CNN.

A victor of 20 Grammy Awards, Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She signed with Arista Records, and in the 1980s and 1990s released songs like "Jump to It", "Freeway of Love" and "A Rose Is Still a Rose".

It's reported that the 76-year-old's cause of death was pancreatic cancer. The singer remained frail toward the end of her life, rarely making public appearances.

By the looks of it, Otis Redding certainly wielded an influence over Aretha in some form as the singer had turned Redding's Think into an absolute sensation with her fine vocals.

"I am deeply saddened about the passing of the Queen of Soul and my sister in song, Aretha Franklin", the singer who also gained fame in the golden era of soul, disco and R&B. In 2017, Franklin canceled a number of concerts citing health reasons. In the '80s, she took on more of an elder-legend role, but she still had plenty of success.

She sang at the inaugurations of presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. It was only after she left Columbia and linked up with the visionary producer Jerry Wexler and Atlantic Records in 1967 that her career really took off.

"I would hear stories about how Franklin managed her business, making sure she was treated well and paid", Evans said.

Evans respected Franklin's approach to her work, and the way she managed to make a successful career for herself.
