But according to Barca director director Ariedo Braida, the defending La Liga champions are unlikely to make an offer for the recent World Cup victor.

Tunnel footage taken moments before Fred ran out onto the Old Trafford pitch for his warm-up has now emerged.

The 25-year-old - who scored a superb goal in France's 4-2 victory over Croatia in the World Cup final - was credited with a "monster performance" by Mourinho in United's opening 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City on Friday.

Chris Sutton believes Jose Mourinho's criticism of Paul Pogba is ultimately self-defeating, noting how the club needs him more than he needs Manchester United.

Pogba has done little to distance himself from rumours that he was unhappy playing under United manager Jose Mourinho, following up the below cryptic tweet by claiming that "there are things I can not say otherwise I will get fined".

The two had exchanged tense comments in the media over the summer - primarily with Mourinho urging Pogba to replicate his World Cup form in Manchester.

The midfielder was arguably United's best player throughout, bossing the midfield while being the main creative outlet for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford.

"If you're not happy, you can not give your best", said Pogba.

"With the players that we have, of course we're Manchester United, we have to look at the top of the league".

However, with the transfer window closed in the Premier League, Mourinho would be unwilling to lose a player he can not replace until January.

"I always love this club".

In fact, the player himself stoked those rumours with a series of cryptic post-match comments after his side's 2-1 win, which came in response to a question about his contentment at the club.

"We have big coaching staffs and I think we are more the head coach than the manager". I do not say it for this player [Pogba].
