Divers in Tampa, Florida pulled the body of a child from the Hillsborough River after witnesses reported seeing a woman throw the child into the water.

Tampa police say Denson stole a vehicle Thursday afternoon from a sales lot and forced her daughter inside.

Authorities have not identified the woman but said they are trying to contact relatives.

A woman is suspected of throwing the child, who died, into the river, the Tampa Police Department said.

The woman was taken into custody after being found walking away from the scene, Dugan said, but he could not provide any more details.

Chief Brian Dugan referred to the case as "tragic, chaotic and unbelievable" at a Friday morning news conference at Tampa Police headquarters.

"It's a insane world we live in", he said.

She made it about halfway across the water, then "tossed" the child and retreated to the street, the release said.

A GoFundMe page that was created by Denson in October 2017 stated Je'Hyrah was diagnosed with autism, the report said.

Investigators said they're still piecing together what led to the tragedy. Search and dive teams responded immediately and found the body of a young girl approximately 30 minutes after the initial report.

Upon entering the river, she threw Je'Hyrah in and walked away. "Then everybody going full attack mode to make sure she got in the ambulance and then taken to [the hospital]". Her mother, Shakayla Denson, is facing a number of charges, including first-degree felony murder. She was about 75 feet from shore.

"Our hearts hurt for the loss of Je'Hyrah Daniels", Sheriff's Office spokesman Danny Alvarez stated. Two witnesses said the child was "forcefully pushed" into the backseat.
