Real Madrid president Florentino warns Inter Milan off Modric

Luka Modric opens talks to leave Real Madrid for Inter Milan as Arturo Vidal deal stalls

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has slapped a mammoth €750m price tag on World Cup Golden Ball victor and Inter target Luka Modric - but the figure could change dramatically should the Croatian decide he wants to leave, according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

According to Sky Italia, Croatia worldwide Luka Modric is tempted to join Inter Milan, with the Italian club having apparently made contact with the player's agents. Luciano Spalletti has trialled Kwadwo Asamoah in the midfield and if Spalletti intends to use the Ghanaian there then Inter will need to add another full back to their ranks.

But Modric seems determined to test Real's resolve.

Having already allowed Ronaldo to leave this summer, Madrid won't be easily persuaded to letting a second key squad member go.

Croatia worldwide Modric, named the best player at the World Cup, renewed his contract at the Bernabeu in November 2016 and it is set to run until 2020.

However, Los Blancos' president insists they will only sell the Croatian star for a ridiculous amount of money.

"The only way Modric can leave is if someone pays 750m", he told Spanish publication Marca.

"They are thinking around Europe that Real Madrid is an NGO, and will give their best players to anyone who asks", Benito said. "The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying 750 million euros". Madrid's number 10 has marked himself in recent years as one of the greatest midfielders to ever play the game, with Croatia's recent run to the World Cup final only emphasizing that point.

Modric was the player of the tournament in Russian Federation and remains one of the leading midfielders in world football.
