José Mourinho expects only one more new arrival at United

Meanwhile amid injury woes which have seen Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling all sidelined during United's pre-season tour of the US, Mourinho has called upon his first-team players who are now on their summer holidays following the World Cup to return to training early.

Ander Herrera and Eric Bailly are now serious doubts to face Real Madrid in United's final pre-season game across the pond.

"They didn't go to the game, the stadium was empty".

"No. I'm confident I'll get one", he said.

"I told you guys the other day in the media that I don't think we have worse players than any other team in the league, that's first of all". And I read into that he wants the best for the fans and the best for us and of course the best for him. "But get over it, man, and do what you do best - win matches".

The Sun cites one case of an unnamed player in a panic asking the TV channel he gave an interview to erase an answer he gave them.

Unlike rivals Liverpool and champions Manchester City, two Premier League contenders whose pre-season has included solid preparations and astute transfers, Manchester United watchers see nothing to celebrate as the 55-year-old Portuguese manager prepares for his third term at Old Trafford.

"If it's possible it's possible, if not, it's not".

Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof are not in the USA after taking time off following the World Cup. "If it's not possible, we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have".

"He's pointed out in no uncertain terms that if we want to see a manatee or a stingray ahead of the start of the season, this is our opportunity".

"I was surprised. When you have players like Ronaldo and Messi, you think they will stay with the club forever".

"Martial, he had the baby and after the baby was born, attractive baby, full of health thank God, he should be here but he's not here".

"We don't have wingers, we don't have strikers".

"It's also hard for us but we knew in advance before coming that it was going to be like this". Now we have Real Madrid and after that Bayern Munich.

"I think something has gone on in the background maybe they've had a fallout or whatever".
