US pop music star Demi Lovato, who has spoken openly about her history of drug and alcohol abuse, was taken to a Los Angeles hospital on Tuesday suffering from a suspected overdose, according to media reports. The Los Angeles Fire Department received a medical call from a home along Laurel View Drive in Hollywood Hills on Tuesday shortly before 11:30 a.m.

Reps for the singer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Her fans say the singer's battles with mental illness and addiction - often documented in her music - have helped them with their own struggles. "I love u [Demi Lovato]", singer Ariana Grande said in a tweet. She celebrated six years of sobriety in March.

Recalling how she would lie to her management and manipulate situations in order to get drugs, Demi revealed: "I wasn't ready to get sober". "To the ones who never left me / We've been down this road before / I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore". "I want to be a role model but I'm only human".

In her song, Lovato adds, "I'm sorry that I'm here again".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox Broadcasting Company has decided that the episode of Beat Shazam featuring Lovato as a guest star, which was scheduled to air Tuesday, July 24, will be replaced with a different, new episode. It breaks my heart that she is going through this.

TMZ said police told them it appeared to be heroin, but the source now says no.

"So sorry to hear about Demi Lovato being hospitalized". Her 2015 album, "Confident", earned her a Grammy nomination for best pop vocal album.

She began her acting career on popular children's series Barney & Friends, before achieving fame on Disney Channel shows and TV movies like Sonny With a Chance and Camp Rock.

Lovato's self-titled album, "Demi", released in 2013. "Like all of you I am reeling at the news about Demi".

"Tonight I took the stage, a new person with a new life", she captioned an Instagram post.
