Theresa May: Trump told me to sue the EU

THERESA MAY was told by Donald Trump she should go to court to make Brussels give her a good Brexit deal.

"He told me I should sue the EU", May said.

The British Prime Minister has revealed that Donald Trump advised her to "sue the European Union" instead of negotiating with the bloc over her Brexit strategy. Asked in a BBC interview Sunday what that was, May responded with an amused expression: "He told me I should sue the EU". "Sue the EU. Not go into negotiations - sue them".

British Prime Minister Theresa May bowed to pressure on Monday from euroskeptics in her ruling Conservative Party by agreeing to a series of amendments to a bill setting up a new customs regime after Brexit.

Ahead of a key week of Parliament votes on trade and customs policy, Mrs May warned party rebels they should fall into line, saying wrecking her Brexit blueprint could result in disaster.

This way, the trade between the member states is carried out freely without much restraints and customs checks, but they can not strike their own deal with other nations outside the EU.

She added: "Interestingly, what the president also said at that press conference was 'Don't walk away".

And as May struggles to hold her own government together, with the never-ending arguments about Brexit negotiations threatening to tear her Conservative party apart.

He is seen as a potential leadership challenger and US President Donald Trump championed the credentials of the charismatic if gaffe-prone politician for the top job during his visit to the United Kingdom last week.

He said she would have to change her policy in order to get it through Parliament, without having to rely on Labour votes.

The White Paper published last Thursday proposes what amounts to a "soft Brexit" on goods - with common regulation - and a "hard Brexit" on services. He said May's proposals would probably kill off any chance of a post-Brexit trade deal with the United States.

She insisted the amendments did not deviate from her Brexit plan formally unveiled last week following months of cabinet infighting.

But her plan so far has pleased very few, deepening those divisions in her Conservative Party that have so far hampered progress in talks with the European Union, and triggering a bitter war of words between its Brexit-supporting and pro-EU factions.

But in order to remove the prime minister, May's opponents would need to collect 159 votes within the Conservative party.

"I wouldn't have gone through all the work that I did to reach that agreement, only to see it changed in some way through these bills", she told parliament.

Aside from the latest Brexit developments, Martin, a veteran Socialist MEP, said the time is ripe for a second referendum; "The general election proves there is no appetite for a hard Brexit - and now is the flawless time to change our minds".
