Chelsea have been strongly linked with Sarri over the past two months but previous head coach Antonio Conte was only removed from his position on Friday.

The 48-year-old Italian, who returned to pre-season training this week, had one year remaining on his contract.

Chelsea have officially parted company with Antonio Conte, and the statement about his departure is truly embarrassing considering his stint at Stamford Bridge. "In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game season".

'We wish Antonio every success in his future career'.

In the end, Napoli came up short in the Scudetto race last season but not before they had picked up the highest points tally ever without winning the title and not before making a major impression with his style of play.

The chain smoking former Empoli manager - who will have to restrain himself on the touchline in England where smoking is banned - was named Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17.

Two trophies in two seasons but the writing was on the wall.

He ran into trouble with his employers after his first season at the Stamford Bridge but managed to wrap up the 2017-18 season with silverware - beating Manchester United to win this year's FA Cup. "Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri". It would make Jorginho the second most expensive layer in the club's history, behind Alvaro Morata.

He also clashed with senior players such as Diego Costa and David Luiz while others had begun to grow tired of his methods.

Conte still had a year left on a revised deal he signed last summer after delivering the fifth Premier League title since Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003.
