No word on how Chillal is adapting to the lighter load on his left hand, but life just became easier for him in many ways. The 14-year-old then chose to take up a challenge to see how long he could go without trimming his nails.

Shridhar Chillal, 82, finally got his fingernails cut after 66 years of growing them out.

After about 64 years, when he had grown his nails to a total length of 909.6 cm (9.1 m), Chillal's name found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having "Longest Fingernails on a Single Hand Ever" in 2016.

The clipped nails will now be on display at the Ripley's Believe it or Not! museum.

After 66 years of growing them, the man with the world's longest fingernails now has a free hand to work with.

Chillal, a Guinness World Record holder, had the longest fingernails in the world, not having cut them since 1952.

Chillal tried to cut the nails himself with a clipper, despite the fact that his thumbnail looked like a legit tree branch, and unsurprisingly had little success.

"When I had my nails I took special care of them because they're a very delicate part of our body, I took care of them for a lifetime", he said. The Guinness World Record holder is now finally said goodbye to his nails in an emotional farewell.

He only grew the nails on his left hand. In 2015, he told HuffPost India how hard it was to sleep with his long nails.

He said decades of dealing with the weight of his nails has left his hand permanently unable to open or move his fingers. Times Square, according to a media advisory.

They were cut by power tools at a ceremony in NY on Wednesday. "When I chose to cut my nails, it was hard for me to make this decision, but when I realised that after cutting my nails, my nails will be at Ripley's Believe It or Not! and they're going to maintain it very nicely and for a lifetime, then I felt like I was doing the right decision and that's why I chose to cut my nails".
