Kane says England defeat will hurt for a long time

They've had extra-time. We'd be a bit fresher than them.

"They struggled against Denmark and Russian Federation and needed penalties on both occasions".

Lovren, though, does not think fatigue will prove a problem against England.

"I'm perfectly fit and ready and I can say the same for my team mates. It may repeat itself once, maybe never".

Harry Kane says England are determined to "finish the job" in Russian Federation and hopes their unexpected tilt at World Cup glory will inspire the next generation.

Dalic admitted that trying to outdo the achievement of that great generation was a driving force for his team, skippered by the brilliant Luka Modric.

"It's fantastic to meet any heroes from '66 and it gives you so much inspiration, obviously it's been a long time since England have done well in a major tournament", he said. We have come back after 20 years to the semis and we deserve it.

Croatia are in the last four for the first time since 1998 but they had to survive two penalty shoot-outs against Denmark and Russian Federation to make it this far. "Probably nobody would go to work!"

Quoted by the Mirror ahead of Wednesday's game, Lovren said: "He's one of the best strikers in the Premier League".

The Reds lost 4-1, with Kane scoring twice and Lovren substituted after 31 minutes.

Lovren was not impressed when he was reminded of that day by an English reporter.

"I don't know what to say in response", he said at a news conference. "It's completely irrelevant to talk about one or other defeat against Tottenham", said Lovren when he was asked about the game. You are just nitpicking a bad performance.

"And I'm a little bit anxious about Harry Kane. But I like to challenge these strikers and to show to everyone that I'm one of the best defenders".

Dalic refused to confirm whether right back Sime Vrsaljko would miss the game, after the Atletico Madrid player came off in extra time against Russian Federation. "Everyone wants to finish the job and we're excited to try and do that".
