The new liberal rallying cry raises more questions than it answered.

Calls to abolish the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, also known as ICE, are getting louder. The subject emerged following Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's stunning primary victory over Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley (D-NY).

"Bernie calls for abolishing our entire immigration system, which is honestly way further to the left than exclusively abolishing ICE", Max Rivlin-Nadler, immigration and criminal justice reporter for The Appeal, argued in response to Sanders" statement. It's short enough to fit on a bumper sticker - as does "Build the Wall", or "Abolish the IRS".

"Although ICE is clearly in need of significant reform, abolishing the agency charged with executing the administration's misguided policies won't change the policies".

If it's a useful slogan for Democrats, why are Republicans thrilled? Any of them, along with local law enforcement, can be tasked with tracking down potentially risky illegal immigrants.

There's a new rallying cry sweeping the Democrat Party: Abolish ICE.

"It's been really tough because we don't know what's going on in there", said Hadar Cohen, a protester who said she is a neighbor. But when these people come in to our country and come in illegally, and then they're dispersed throughout the country and all of a sudden you see nests of MS-13.

According to the Texas Observer, 19 agents asked DHS leadership to consider a restructure because they say the detention policies have hindered their ability to investigate non-immigration crimes.

"Many Democrats are deeply concerned about the fact that their 'leadership" wants to denounce and abandon the great men and women of ICE, thereby declaring war on Law & Order, ' Trump wrote in yet another tweet Tuesday morning.

Until this past weekend, immigration was largely a political problem for Republicans.

That's much different than the forced separation of mothers and children, which Democrats have used as a bludgeon against Donald Trump for the past month. But if a new poll is correct, it appears the Trump administration, after a damaging few weeks, has ended up squarely on the side of the majority.

"They (poll respondents) rejected family separation while narrowly favoring family detention", Penn said in an email exchange.

Trump's immigration crackdown and the far left's push for open borders will undoubtedly grab headlines in the race to replace outgoing representative Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) in this coastal swing district. It's why so many Democratic lawmakers refuse to jump on the "Abolish ICE" bandwagon. It was created recently in the hysteria of anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant sentiments following 9/11.

Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., is one of three red-state Democrats who voted previous year to confirm Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, and who Republicans hope will support this nominee. Kamala Harris, another possible 2020 contender, did not. Seven percent of Democrats cited immigration as their top concern.

Winter Park businessman Chris King "believes any comprehensive immigration reform effort should take a hard look at real reforms to ICE as an agency", a spokesman said. During his presidency, Bill Clinton helped create numerous laws we still use to deport people.
