Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appealed to President Donald Trump to repeat his predecessor's choice and nominate federal judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court for a second time "as a way to unify the country", according to a source.

President Trump will announce his next Supreme Court nominee in less than a week, and one name popping up on everybody's short list is Amy Coney Barrett. "The Senate must only confirm a justice who firmly declares that the constitution protects individual liberty and the right of all people to make personal decisions about their bodies and relationships, including the right to have contraception, the right to an abortion, and to marry the person who you choose".

Kethledge, 51, was born in Summit, New Jersey, and grew up in MI. If nominated and confirmed, Kethledge would become the only judge on the current Supreme Court who did not receive a law degree from Harvard or Yale.

Kethledge graduated from the University of Michigan and received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Spencer Abraham (R-Mich.) and has written several notable opinions blasting President Barack Obama's IRS and Labor Department.

Some conservatives have pointed to Kethledge as a potential justice in the mold of Neil Gorsuch, Trump's first Supreme Court nominee a year ago. IL law protects it. Trump conducted interviews on Monday and Tuesday and has spoken to seven possible candidates.

"I had a very interesting morning", Trump told reporters at the White House.

And in endorsing judicial recusal, they cite a law review article urging the same result for an anti-abortion judge who is compelled by precedent - and the status of being a lower-court judge - to uphold that right.

If Lee is confirmed, he would join the rare rankings of American Supreme Court justices who are better known for their careers in non-judicial and elected offices. The Justice Department last month threw its support behind a lawsuit arguing that Obamacare's protections for people with pre-existing conditions are unconstitutional. Ted Cruz of Texas, are supporting fellow Sen.

One group aligned with Democrats began running ads Thursday in the home states of Sens. The campaign will invest heavily in the ME and Alaska markets to stoke the mounting pressure on Collins and Murkowski to vote against the nominee.

With the Senate narrowly divided, 51-49, in favor of Republicans, Trump's announcement will launch a contentious confirmation process as Republicans seek to shift the court to the right and Democrats strive to block the effort.

Schumer, a Jewish Democrat from NY, made the request in a phone call earlier this week, The Post reported.

Judge Raymond Kethledge poses for an undated photo. "Anti-choice activists have praised his work as Judiciary Committee counsel for Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI) when Sen".

The high court could also take a different route and declare that a fetus is a "person", which wouldn't allow states to provide abortions under the 14th Amendment. It's unlikely that Jeff Flake, for instance, would have voted for the rule change now, let alone Collins and Murkowski. Her confirmation hearing drew national attention after Democratic Sen. Amazingly enough, Kavanaugh, who complained that the appeals court majority was providing a right to "immediate abortion on demand", is being criticized from the right for not going even farther. They are two votes Trump may lose if they come to conclude his nominee will overturn the Roe v. Wade precedent.
