'Extreme, dangerous' heat to continue this week, meteorologists say

When it does get to 90 degrees this afternoon, it will be the 5th consecutive day of 90 plus degree heat here in CT, and we're not quite done with the heat yet. As heat and humidity build, isolated t-storms will build by the afternoon.

The Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, while an Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect from Monday evening through Monday evening.

With 79-83 Saturday & 81-86 Sunday, we may see our first night with lows in the 50s in three weeks.

The temporary reprieve from the weekend's crippling heat will give way to hotter conditions heading into the Fourth of July holiday on Wednesday, according to the weather service.

Another round of excessive heat and humidity is on the way today with afternoon highs in the 90s with heat index values 100°-110°. Storms are possible, but mainly west of the D.C. metro. Scattered thunderstorms are also expected, although the evening looks dry - so there should be no interruption of scheduled fireworks shows.

"Heat-related illnesses possible through this time period, especially for at-risk populations such as the elderly, very young, and those with mental illnesses", the NY weather service office warned.

And, "Never leave your children or pets in a vehicle".

Drink less caffeine and alcohol.

Do not forget to check in on elderly neighbors and those with breathing issues. If you continue to vomit, seek medical help right away.

If you are looking for another way to cool off, city beaches are open.

"Especially for kids, cooling off with a swim is helpful, but still [you have to] take safety measures to stay cool", said Dr. Shobitz.

Partly cloudy, mild and humid with a 20% chance for a few showers. At the emergency room the man's internal temperature reached 108 degrees, damaging his brain.

Priante said Lehigh Valley residents likely won't feel any real relief until a minimum of Wednesday, July 4 for Independence Day.
