Coast Guard searching for cruise ship worker who fell overboard

The man who went overboard from the Norwegian Gateway cruise ship yesterday was rescued by the crew of a different cruise ship, the Carnival Glory.

The U.S. Coast Guard had been informed Saturday afternoon that a 33-year old crew member was seen falling off of the Norwegian Getaway ship nearly 30 miles northwest of Pinar del Rio, a province in western Cuba, according to the Miami Herald.

The Coast Guard on Saturday had launched a major search and rescue operation with boats and planes after Norwegian reported the crew member missing.

The U.S. Coast Guard tells us Carnival Glory's next port of call is Cozumel, Mexico and that's where the crew member is expected to unboard.

"Kudos to the Carnival Glory team for this awesome effort to rescue a fellow seafarer", Ms Duffy said.

A cruise ship worker who fell overboard survived 22 hours in the water before being picked up by another vessel.

But a cabin steward from the Carnival Glory spotted the crew member in the water around 1:20 p.m. Sunday.

A statement from the U.S. Coast Guard said he was in stable condition.

A cruise ship crew member fell overboard and was rescued by another passenger vessel passing by after almost 24 hours at sea.

"We're still searching", Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lally said Sunday just before 8 a.m. We have now chose to stop the search for our crew member and this is also made in cooperation with the U.S. Coast Guard.

"Our condolences to the crew member's family", said Lowinger. The man's identity has not been revealed, and the circumstances surrounding his fall into the water have not been established.
