A wildfire burning across three counties in Northern California grew overnight on Sunday to 44,700 acres, CalFire reported Monday morning, and had some hope as the triple-digit heat from the weekend should be cooling off.

The Pawnee Fire has burned more than 14,500 acres so far near Clearlake Oaks and is now 73 percent contained.

"The wind is not in our favor and we are seeing it very much so and we could see it the next 24 to 48 hours", said Israel Pinzon with Cal Fire. Fire weather conditions remain critical. No injuries were reported and the exact number of people evacuated was unclear. The Waverly Fire in San Joaquin County had spread some 12,300 acres and was 75 percent contained. Agencies from the Bay Area and from as far away as San Diego, Modoc and Mendocino counties have sent firefighters to the area, Anthony said. 128, between the Monticello Dam and Pleasant Valley Road as well as areas north of Hwy. Two evacuation centers were set up, including Huerfano Community Center and one at Blanca Fort Garland Community Center.

Multiple crews from Grand Lake Fire, East Grand Fire, Hot Sulphur Springs, EMS and the Sheriff's Office all responded to the fire.

"In a drought-stricken area, once you get a spark, it is off to the races", he said. Extreme fire behavior has been observed, according to Cal Fire, with shifting winds creating numerous areas that have the potential to increase its rate of spread.

The fire grew by more than 10,000 acres on Sunday, authorities said.

"Overall, this is the new normal for us".

Autumn Edens of Guinda, a town just north of the fire, told the Associated Press: "You can see the smoke and you can see an orange-red glow from the flames".

Cal Fire says strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity are fueling the blaze. The fire in Yolo County has grown to 22,000 acres, forcing many people to leave their homes.

"Multiple crews from Grand Lake Fire, Grand Fire, East Grand Fire, Hot Sulphur Springs, EMS and sheriff's office are now working the fire to get it under control", Grand County officials said Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service cautions that smokey conditions will continue into Tuesday morning.
