Sony Issues Statement Regarding Fortnite Cross-Platform Play on PS4

Sony's Cross-Play Policies Are Hurting Fortnite Players on Nintendo Switch

Sony's Cross-Play Policies Are Hurting Fortnite Players on Nintendo Switch

Fortnite on the Switch allows cross-platform play with Xbox One and PC - but not PS4.

Players of the popular survival game Fortnite are complaining to Sony that they can not use the same accounts on different consoles.

What has followed has been a fairly justified backlash towards Sony which we have now learned extends to the company's stock. No Xbox One, no Switch.

To say that Sony needs to ease up on its stance is an understatement.

Note that the sale of these games will run until the 21st of June at 11:59AM ET/8:59AM PT, so you'll have about a week to enjoy the discounts. Would you buy a PS4 if watching Netflix on it meant you couldn't watch it on another platform? They could also simply stick with playing the game on the PS4, but many would likely find this unacceptable.

Why the analysts reacted the way they did, who knows. It's an abhorrent roadblock that far exceeds cross-play politics, and Sony's response to it was incredibly tone deaf. It doesn't help the player. Miller dropped the below well written tweet just after Fortnite on Switch launched. Sony released a statement to BBC in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but their response lacks any real information. Either way, this past week hasn't been smooth sailing for the platform holder. So, Microsoft and Nintendo have much to gain from cross-play being a thing, if you look at it that way. That device is a direct competitor to the PlayStation 4, and Sony is now in the lead.

Moving the challenges day to Thursday gives new Fortnite Switch players a bit of time to catch up and figure out how the Battle Pass works.

I've reached out to Sony for a clarification specifically about blocking the Epic account on Switch and Xbox One, and I'll update this story with any new information.

And while it brings the Fortnite Battle Royale mode to Nintendo's hybrid console, it appears that developer Epic Games will not be bringing the game's cooperative experience, Save the World, to the Nintendo Switch. People are getting locked out of their stuff on a platform that uses the slogan "this is for the players".

He said high demand for the game to be on the Switch console led to the surge in downloads.

At the time of the announcement, it was revealed the game would support crossplay with every platform, except PlayStation 4, who like it is with Microsoft, is unwilling to play crossplay with Nintendo.
