Sessions spoke at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

A long-serving law enforcement official, Comey became a controversial figure during the 2016 presidential election, drawing accusations from both Republicans and Democrats that his handling of the probe into Clinton's emails influenced the campaign. "I have them all", Trump told Fox & Friends on the North Lawn of the White House. "That was of all the things, that wasn't to me maybe the most interesting".

Responding to the report Thursday, Comey tweeted that he respects the Inspector General's office and that their "conclusions are reasonable", even though he disagreed with some of them.

"The end result was wrong".

Trump added: "And there was total bias".

Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign, possible collusion with those around Trump and whether the president sought to obstruct justice. "Unfortunately, over the past year, the DOJ has repeatedly fought requests by Congress to produce documents related to this investigation, and when the DOJ actually provided documents, the materials have been heavily redacted".

Trump himself said he had "reservations" about a sit-down with the investigators.

"The IG Report is a total disaster for Comey, his minions and sadly, the Federal Bureau of Investigation". He tweeted Friday he did a "great service to the people" in terminating Comey.

Donald Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said there's a "good chance" the president will decide next week whether to answer questions from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a crucial choice that could shape the course of his presidency.

During its investigation, the inspector general uncovered text messages Strzok exchanged with top FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

"The FBI's inaction had potentially far-reaching consequences", the report found, noting there were no persuasive arguments to explain the delay.

The running political commentary between the agency employees included one comment expressing a desire to "stop" Trump's election.

"Doesn't get any lower than that!" he said after citing Strzok's text about preventing him from becoming president.

The watchdog report also concluded that Comey's handling of Clinton's email investigation was "extraordinary and insubordinate" but was not motivated by political boas. If Trump wants to view people's partisanship as their only motive for doing their jobs, he loses that argument very quickly when it comes to the independent, FBI-backed investigation now looking into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and any possible collusion between his campaign and the Russians.
