Police say two Wyandotte County sheriff's deputies have been shot near the county courthouse in Kansas City, Kansas.

The deputies were shot after a suspect overpowered at least one of them and perhaps took a weapon, said Major Kelli Bailiff of the Wyandotte Sheriff's Department said during a press conference. He also says he doesn't know if the woman had exited the shed or was shot while still inside.

Officials identified the deputy that died in the shooting as Patrick Rohrer, 35.

He's also been charged with murder, assault and armed criminal action in a December 2017 shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.

Two men died in an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon near the Barney Allis Plaza in downtown Kansas City.

Zeigler said both deputies were taken to KU Med Center for treatment. No other details were released about the suspect, including his condition.

Both officers are deputies with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office.

KCK police say Rohrer had been with the sheriff's office for seven years. Police Officer Zac Blair said authorities are reviewing surveillance video.

Blair added to the Star that police were not looking for any other suspects and that the incident "is contained".

Tactical officers secured the area, and negotiators tried to make contact with the woman, Colon said.
