The deputies were shot after a suspect overpowered at least one of them and perhaps took a weapon, said Major Kelli Bailiff of the Wyandotte Sheriff's Department said during a press conference. He also says he doesn't know if the woman had exited the shed or was shot while still inside.

Officials identified the deputy that died in the shooting as Patrick Rohrer, 35.

He's also been charged with murder, assault and armed criminal action in a December 2017 shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.

KCK police say Rohrer had been with the sheriff's office for seven years. Police Officer Zac Blair said authorities are reviewing surveillance video.
