Haviland Drainage Products, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, are partnering together in the Missing Types campaign.

A new American Red Cross survey shows that widespread misconceptions about blood donation could be contributing to a shrinking blood donor population. Right now, reserves are below that minimum.

"South African big business has the power to change the fact that our country faces constant blood shortages - and save lives at the same time".

More than half (53 percent) of the public believe they need to know their blood type to donate.* Good news - Potential blood donors do not need to know their blood type before giving blood.

The SANBS hopes this irreverent "disappearing act" will similarly weave a special kind of magic, where only one per cent of South Africans give blood regularly.

The collection centre of focus for this year is the Ocho Rios Baptist Church in St Ann, where donors are able to give blood between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm on World Blood Donor Day.

Many events are held around the world on June 14 to mark World Blood Donor Day. The number of days until they are eligible to donate again is visible to provide a handy reminder when a donor can donate again. It's not just blood: it's keeping families together.

Canadian Blood Services manages the national supply of blood, blood products and stem cells, and related services for all the provinces and territories (excluding Quebec).

McGuire noted the Red Cross suggests people should make sure they have a full stomach and aren't dehydrated if they plan on donating.

There are several blood drives happening in Northwest Arkansas in June. One of those daughters lost her battle with the disease in December, and Johnson said blood transfusions helped all three maintain their quality of life during treatment. "Our region must collect close to 800 units of blood and platelets every day to meet patient need, regardless of the season".
