Warriors' third title in four years seemed inevitable

After surviving a rougher-than-usual regular season and beating top-seeded Houston in Game 7 on the road in the West finals, the Warriors pushed aside James and joined an elite group of teams to win multiple championships in a four-year span.

His 43-point, 13-rebound, 7-assist eruption in Game 3 effectively ended the series (no National Basketball Association team has come back from a 3-0 deficit) and clinched his Finals MVP for at least one voter in a 7-4 win over Steph.

Durant, who was named Finals Most Valuable Player for the second straight year, validated the honor by producing a LeBron-like triple-double: 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

James, perhaps playing his final game for the Cavaliers, had his least productive outing of the series, recording 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in his eighth consecutive trip to the Finals.

The visiting Warriors made an NBA-record 15-0 start to last year's playoffs with 3 sweeps and a 3-0 lead on the Cavs before suffering their only playoff loss, eventually taking the title in 5 games. - Why did LeBron James have so little to offer? We just won back-to-back.

"I know Steph doesn't care about stuff like that", Durant said when asked if he might be a little anxious Curry wanted his first Finals MVP.

As mentioned before James can opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer. "All season, getting up every day and going to work with these guys", Durant said in an interview with ABC's Doris Burke.

A majority of Curry's 37 points came from outside the 3-point arc. "So, I don't have an answer for you right now".

If LeBron can't make history by coming back from a 0-3 deficit in the NBA Finals, this will likely be the last time he'll wear a Cavs uniform.

Then the league's best team tightened the screws on Cleveland in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavs 25-13 and prompting Golden State fans to begin those drawn-out "War-eee-orrss" chants. The Warriors haven't been at their absolute best in this series but they proved they can still win even if Curry shoots one of 10 from the three-point line. With Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green leading the Warriors, LeBron and his cast of average teammates are overmatched in almost every category.

In Game 3, a pivotal swing game, Durant exploded for 43 points, including a deep dagger 3-pointer late in the contest to seal the victory. "It's an unbelievable feeling to come here with a mission and get the job done", Curry said. "I mean I have no idea at this point".

"I really just am happy to be a champ again". I was able to do that. LeBron underwent two MRIs over the course of the series, and wore a soft cast when he wasn't practicing or close to any members of the media, in order to keep his injury out of sight from the competition.
