When President Donald Trump meets with North Korean dictator Kim Jon-Un next week in Singapore, former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman will be on hand, according to a report from the New York Post.

Singapore authorities on Tuesday marked out a part of the island surrounding the Capella hotel as a special security zone for the days around the summit.

Rodman, who fancies himself a sports ambassador to North Korea, said that he did not "want to take all the credit" for laying the groundwork for the summit.

Asked about the contents of Kim's letter, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders declined to "get into the specifics of the letter" but added "we feel like things are continuing to move forward and good progress has been made".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would "allow a western hamburger franchise" into the country as a show of goodwill, according to an intelligence report detailed by US officials to NBC.

Ms Sanders called the letter that top North Korean official Kim Yong-chol delivered from Kim Jong-un to Mr Trump on Friday "interesting" but wouldn't comment on its contents. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that for the settlement on the Korean Peninsula all the interested countries should develop guarantees of North Korea's security.

Vivian Balakrishnan will pay the official visit to the North Korean capital at the invitation of the North's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Singapore's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Rodman's relationship with Kim dates back to 2013, when Rodman first traveled to North Korea for the filming of the Vice documentary film "Basketball Diplomacy".

Mr Trump said on Tuesday that plans were "moving along very nicely".

"We're not paying for their expenses", she said, adding that the United States has not asked other countries to "pay for this". "So I think you should anticipate that at some point down the road, this will turn into a China-US-South Korea-North Korea talks", Rubio told Fox news. "We're continuing to prepare for the president's summit".
