Apple packs in a number of key fixes and important new features that push ahead in some areas and catch up with Windows 10 in others. There was no word on whether Apple News will be available in more countries.

"Are you merging iOS and MacOS?" he said. Both iOS and macOS share a common kernel and have common sets of frameworks for things like graphics, audio, and layout display. Apple did not announce a specific release date yet, but this typically arrives around the time that we see new iPhones and Apple Watches.

Apple is taking advantage of this new version of macOS Mojave to finally give the Mac App Store a definitive facelift. The first developer beta arrives later today.

The new Dark Mode transforms a users desktop to a darker colour scheme, putting the focus on user content while controls recede into the background. This is not a release you should install on your only computer, but it is a handy way to try out the latest features on a secondary device. The new feature lets Apple users running macOS Mojave or iOS 12 make group video call at the same time.

Also, Group FaceTime is also integrated into the current FaceTime app that supports up to 32 participants in a single session.

macOS Mojave will be available this fall as a free software update for Macs introduced in mid-2012 or later, plus 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models. This is not a major surprise, but it is good news for users that want new features without upgrading to new hardware. Finder also gets quick actions which allow you to do quick actions such as create password-protected PDFs and run Automator actions directly from it. While the iOS 12 beta seems more stable than past iOS beta 1s, it still has its own issues and nuances that will quickly grow old if you run it on your day-to-day device.

New macOS Mojave FeaturesApple includes a host of new macOS Mojave features.

Along with WatchOS and iOS, Apple also outlined what it's been working on for its PC operating system for the past year - MacOS.

Moving on, Apple is updating its Safari web browser in macOS Mojave enhancing its Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature even further, so "your Mac will look like every other Mac" meaning it would become even more hard for data companies to collect user data.

While this is not a performance upgrade, we expect it to be one of the most talked about macOS updates in the coming months. For some Apple News readers like me, who get the majority of their news from the app, there is even less incentive for me to visit each publisher's website.
