Arsenal in shock move for Manchester United midfielder

Arsenal transfer news Man Utd Marouane Fellaini

According to reports in Metro, Arsenal have suddenly emerged as surprise contenders to sign Marouane Fellaini.

The summer transfer window has been open for quite a while in England and it closes on 9 August - just before the new season kicks off.

New manager Unai Emery is a known admirer of Fellaini and wanted to sign him when he was in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, but could face competition from Serie A club AC Milan.

Arsenal have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer.

French publication Foot 365 has claimed that Arsenal are due to meet with the player's representatives this week over a potential move to the Emirates. But the manager, Thomas Tuchel, doesn't fancy a move for the Belgian.

Fellaini was signed by David Moyes as United looked to a new future following the end of the Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford and now the same player could provide evidence of a changed approach at Arsenal following the exit of Arsene Wenger last month. While there is nothing that Mourinho can do to stop Fellaini from joining whoever he wants to, he may finally put pressure on the board to offer the midfielder a greater incentive to stay at the club.

The big Belgian defensive midfielder has always been linked with a move from Old Trafford this summer but the smart money had him heading to Roma or AC Milan. So it makes sense that they are going after free agents with Stephan Lichtsteiner also linked.
