WWDC 18: Watch Apple map out the future of iOS and macOS

The technology giant is holding its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California, where new features created to improve performance and reliability in its iOS operating system will reportedly be announced. Scheduled are sessions presented by Apple Inc.

You can look forward to Apple's iOS 12 becoming available later this month.

Secondly, iOS 12 and Safari is going to make it much, much harder for third parties to track you across the internet. If you're willing to put up with the bugs and instability of an unfinished OS (and have an Apple ID and $99), then you can join the Apple Developer Program and install Mojave right now. Don't worry if you missed out on watching Apple's big show on Monday though, because we've got you covered.

The Photos app gets an extra For You tab. In this post, you'll find all of the biggest announcements from WWDC 2018 in one place.

The company is also set to preview iOS 12, the new version of the iPhone and iPad operating system, including bug fixes and other enhancements. To help reduce interruptions, iOS 12 gives users more options for controlling how notifications are delivered. That most certainly is the case here as iOS 12 is mostly about improving the user-experience. That, Federighi says, has been a particular area of focus for Apple this past year.

At one point, rumours were circulating that it would introduce universal applications that work across iPad, iPhone and Mac, but more recently the common consensus is that this won't be ready until 2019 or even later. Now, less than a year later, Apple introduced the second generation of the ARKit development platform at its annual WWDC developer conference.

Apple is expected to launch an exciting new iPhone feature to address a problem it helped create: phone addiction. The reports suggests that at some point Apple is planning on overhauling the traditional app grid, CarPlay interface, Mail app, and photography and camera software. Last week, leaked screenshots offered a close look at macOS 10.14. A new design makes it easier to capture, share and edit recordings.

But performance enhancements and system optimizations are obviously just a small piece of the iOS 12 puzzle, which also includes a lot of AR improvements.

Federighi noted that while just 6 percent of Android handsets have the latest version of Google's mobile operating system installed, 81 percent of Apple users have iOS 11 - and the wide range of supported devices for iOS 12 means this impressive statistic is likely to remain pretty much unchanged. As for watchOS 5, we can expect Apple to add new health and fitness features.

Apple is said to unveil upgrades to its AR software at WWDC 2018.

Safari will soon better protect your privacy online. As part of "ARKit2", Apple has been planning a new mode that would allow users to play AR games against each other in the same virtual environment.
