Collider reports The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln will be making his exit from the long-running post-apocalyptic AMC series during the show's upcoming ninth season.

In addition to Lincoln's impending departure from The Walking Dead, there's still uncertainty over whether or not Lauren Cohan will continue to play a role in the series. According to CB several other main cast members are near the end of their contracts as well which leaves the fate of AMC's signature hit in jeopardy after season 9.

This goodbye for the CAA represented Lincoln follows co-star Lauren Cohan drastically cutting down her participation in the Angela Kang showrunner season for a stint on ABC's midseason replacement spy dramedy Whiskey Cavalier.

Lincoln, who plays survivor leader Rick Grimes, will reportedly only appear in six episodes of Season 9. When reached by SYFY WIRE, AMC declined to comment on the report.

Prepare for The Walking Dead's biggest loss yet. And with other main cast members including Danai Gurira looking at the end of their current contracts at the end of season 9 if the show does continue past season 9 it will be looking at nearly a complete reboot. Both Maggie and Rick play crucial roles in the source material to this day, and many of those current storylines have yet to be teased on the show. Fear The Walking Dead has very successfully rebooted itself in season 4 and The Walking Dead could do the same.

The Walking Dead has been mired in controversy as of late as it was said Chandler Riggs was sacked from the show, and in addition, the show's producers - including Robert Kirkman - are suing the AMC network for monies owed.
