DeAndre Ayton may be the latest big man to lead the center position renaissance in the National Basketball Association.

For nearly a decade, the Phoenix Suns have been terrible. The Celtics reached the NBA Finals in all of those seasons, lost to the Lakers in 1985, and won the title every other time.

The legend of De'Aaron Fox is built, in large part, on the beat down he gave Lonzo Ball last season and the subsequent tendency of Ball (and the rest of the league) to come down with an "injury" on the night when they were supposed to play Fox and the Kings. Between this selection along with the Sixers already having the No. 26 pick in the first round, Brett Brown's team has to love their current position, especially since their approach this time will be a little different thanks to the success from this past season.

During his lone season at Arizona, he averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game while shooting 61.6 per cent from the field, and was "Karl Malone Power Forward" of the year and Associated Press First Team All-American.

Memphis had the second-best chance of securing the first overall pick and the second-best chance of landing a top-three pick. If they're drafted by Minnesota, they have to play in Minnesota, whether or not they like the cold. Phoenix must draft a superstar who can play alongside Booker and help turn around the franchise. They even traveled worldwide to scout Luka Dončić. Helping the NBA's worst defense is a bigger need.

Sitting prominently on Michael Finley's check list are three important things that he explains will assuredly prevent the Dallas Mavericks from being back in the dreaded NBA Draft Lottery again next year.

Well for one, the Suns had no idea Doncic would be available to them in the draft when they hired Kokoskov, and Kokoskov himself says the team is not locked in on one guy at No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft. "And our hope and our goal is to be a lot better next year". He has the ability to knock down a 15-foot jumper, although it is not consistent. His physical presence allows him to easily finish at the rim aggressively. Arizona's very bad showing in the NCAA tournament against No. 13 Buffalo won't hurt Ayton's stock, but it did highlight his deficiencies. Most recently, Ferdette can be seen lighting it up overseas in China. They were 3-0 in overtime games and had enough comebacks and game-winning shots to fill a YouTube highlight reel.

Scouts are concerned that Ayton lacked aggression at both ends.

If he's on the board, Ayton should be an easy pick for Sacramento. In that scenario, it's pick your poison. But context into Doncic's current situation suggests that any thoughts about him staying in the EuroLeague are probably no more than a smoke screen.

This draft could be a big step forward. Just look at what Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis did to their teams. The team has been rebuilding for far too long as they are now in their longest playoff drought in franchise history.
