The 2022 matchup will be the 10th meeting between the two and the first since the Crimson Tide defeated the Longhorns 37-21 in the BCS National Championship Game at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

"We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series", said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, via the school's official website.

Alabama also holds the all-time edge in the series against USC with a 6-2 overall record in eight contests. The first game between the two teams will be in Austin on September 10, 2022, with the second game taking place in Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023.

As it stands, Texas and Alabama won't take the same field until the Longhorns host the Crimson Tide at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in September 2022 for the first leg of the home-and-home series.

The Longhorns have set dates to play the leading SEC team, The University of Alabama, in 2022 and 2023. The 2018 Kickoff will be the Tide's seventh consecutive neutral-site season opener.

With the way Alabama has been playing this decade, that might just require the Longhorns to crack the College Football Playoff over the next three years. Last year, Alabama faced Florida State in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on the first Saturday night.

The last time the Cardinals and Tide paired off was the 1991 Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, Arizona, when Louisville won 34-7.

USC will conclude a two-year series with Texas this season.

A fifth-round pick by New England, Johnson played 94 games - including 43 starts - before finishing his career with the Boston Breakers of the USFL.
