Melania Trump hospitalized after kidney surgery

Pence commented Monday as he opened a speech in Washington marking 70 years of Israeli independence.

"We were sitting around the clinic between patients trying to figure out what the hell they were doing it for", Pascale Lane, professor and section chief of pediatric nephrology-or the study of kidneys-at the University of Oklahoma, told Newsweek.

There's no indication whether Melania's procedure was an emergency or a planned one but she was not spotted publicly on Mother's Day, May 14.

Spokesman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement that the 48-year old Mrs. She is expected to remain hospitalized for the rest of the week.

Mrs. Trump's kidney issues were described as benign by her office.

"The procedure was successful and there were no complications", Ms Grisham said.

Embolization, the procedure the president's wife underwent, is used to deliberately block blood vessels to starve some kind of growth or stop some kind of bleeding, a Massachusetts General Hospital kidney expert said Monday.

Dr Kowalczyk said angiomyolipomas are most commonly found by chance.

"When I hear benign kidney condition, most of the time, you're thinking a cyst and a cyst is basically a fluid-filled structure that can sometimes develop on top of the kidney, or within the kidney", CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta said. He got out of the helicopter and climbed into an SUV, waving to reporters but declining to speak.

The Slovenian-born first lady last week rolled out an agenda for her White House work focused on helping children.

The relationship between Donald Trump and Melania Trump has reportedly been shaky for sometime.

"The most common benign tumor of the kidney is something called a angiomyolipoma", he explained. Following the release of the now infamous "Access Hollywood" tapes and the over a dozen allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump, additional reports have cast even greater doubt on the status of the first couple. "Thank you to all of the well-wishers!" he tweeted.

The Associated Press reported this story. The official says the visit to Walter Reed Medical Center is expected later Monday.

"Usually, with embolisation there is over a 90% success rate", he said.

"That's how they've framed it", Gupta said of the statement from Trump's communications director, "So it doesn't sound like it's any type of cancer".
