Antonio Conte fires fresh Mourinho dig as he hints at Chelsea exit

Chelsea's failure to qualify for next season's Champions League was confirmed as they completed a disappointing Premier League campaign by collapsing to a dismal 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has said the departure of the team's former Technical Director Mike Emenalo made the season hard for the Blues.

The only contribution from Eden Hazard, who has been resurgent in recent weeks, was the ninth worst passing accuracy of all 22 starters (80 per cent success rate), and he was outshone by Jonjo Shelvey. This might lead to a massive squad overhaul in the upcoming summer, which might include the potential sacking of head coach Antonio Conte.

The Nigerian acted as an intermediary between Conte and the Chelsea board and was a trusted aide to Russian owner, Roman Abramovich.

Jamaal Lascelles (7/10): Marshalled the defence with some key interceptions and a couple of well-timed challenges. Benitez's Newcastle, whose top-half finish makes them outstanding overachievers, imposed an authority from the outset which Chelsea never wrestled back.

Paul Dummett (7.5/10): Dummett's defensive solidity is what kept Chelsea at bay throughout the course of the game from the left-hand side. The 26-year-old definitely deserves a call-up to the England national team for his performances in the second half of the season.

Ayoze Perez struck twice to end Chelsea's faint hopes of Champions League qualification as Newcastle secured a top-10 finish on their return to the Premier League.

Barkley is involved for the first time since late January and is joined in central midfield by N'Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

But there are more immediate reflections to be made by Chelsea's strategists on what went wrong this season, the abrupt decline from the team brilliantly guided to the 2017 Premier League title.

"I am working with my players this season and it is not right to say something about this". Aside from scoring a brace, the Spaniard also contributed to Newcastle's creative department heavily. Jacob Murphy replaces Kenedy who is ineligible under the regulations of his loan from Chelsea.

That condemns them to a place in the less prestigious Europa League next season. "I'm very lucky to have a person very close to me that helps me in every moment, in a positive moment, in a negative moment, to face the situation in the best possible way", he added.
