Four children among seven killed in Australian mass shooting

Police made the horrific discovery after being called to the rural property at Osmington, around 20km north east of Margaret River about 5.15am local time on Friday.

They found seven people dead on the property, including four children.

Commissioner Dawson was unable to confirm the murder-suicide but did confirm some of the bodies had gunshot wounds.

"As I'm sure you'd appreciate it, it's not appropriate for me to speculate on any further matters".

"I can only say at this point in time we have no information to raise concern about wider public safety issues".

Dawson told Nine News that two adults were found outside, while five bodies were found inside a building.

Two firearms were located at the scene, and victims suffered gunshot wounds.

"Look, this is a horrific tragedy for any person involved, and clearly officers and other first responders attending these sorts of scenes, it is very tragic", Mr Dawson said.

"We are trying to locate other members of the family and friends".

"I'm not in a position to release any further details about the identities of the deceased", he said.

"Homicide Squad detectives from Perth are assisting local police in investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragedy".

The incident took place in the town of Margaret River, which is roughly 150 miles south of the state capital Perth.

Mr Dawson said the small Osmington community would be reeling but was confident it would rally together.
