That's according to two Iraqi officials.

Five senior Islamic State (ISIS) leaders have been captured in a sting operation orchestrated by American and Iraqi intelligence.

Their arrest represented the two highest-ranking ISIS jihadists ever to be captured alive.

President Donald Trump on Thursday hailed the fact that five of the "most wanted" Islamic State leaders have been captured recently, including Abu Zeid al-Iraqi, one of the main collaborators of the organisation's chief, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Their capture was the result of an elaborate intelligence operation run by Iraq and the U.S.

Iraq has previously called the captured commanders of the IGIL "one of the most wanted" leaders of the group.

Hashimi said the operation was carried out in cooperation with US forces, part of an American-led coalition fighting against Islamic State on both sides of the Iraqi-Syrian border. The Central Investigative Court interrogated Hussein, who "admitted to 'a lot of divisions and break-ups inside the organization.'" The others are "Saddam Jamal, a Syrian and ISIS governor of the eastern Euphrates region, and field commanders Syrian Mohamed al-Qadeer, Iraqi Omar al-Karbouli, and Iraqi Essam al-Zawbai".

Following the capture, intelligence agents from both Iraq and the United States uncovered bank accounts used by the Islamic State and also secret communication codes used by Eithawi.

Although Baghdad declared victory over ISIS in December 2017, Iraqi and American officials concede that the jihadist group still poses a threat.

The ISIS leaders who were apprehended do not include al-Baghdadi, a senior USA official confirmed to CBS News' Margaret Brennan.
