Trump said Friday, in a speech before members of the National Rifle Association, that the situation in Paris would have ended differently if some of the people who suffered the attacks were armed.

The November 2015 attacks by gunman loyal to the Daesh group were the worst in France's history and left the capital and wider country deeply traumatised. It's not thought though that they discussed the United States president's comments about knife violence in London.

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll said in a statement, "France expresses its firm disapproval of the comments by President Trump about the attacks of November 13 2015 in Paris and asks for respect of the memory of the victims", foreign ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll said in a statement. Every country is free to define its own laws when it comes to bearing arms.

The French government issued its strongest criticism of Mr Trump since he took office and one minister urged the leader to apologise, at a time when President Emmanuel Macron has been reinforcing bilateral ties following a state visit.

France believes that the position of Donald trump wrong.

But on Saturday he implied Trump had drawn the wrong conclusion from his remarks, saying on Twitter that he would be happy to invite Trump to his "prestigious" hospital to discuss London's efforts to reduce violence.

Dr. Karim Brohi, another Royal London surgeon, said Trump's position makes no sense.

"They were brutally killed by a small group of terrorists that had guns", Trump told the NRA crowd, referring to the 130 killed and hundreds injured in a coordinated attack by Islamic extremists. Boom! Come over here. "Knives, knives, knives", he had said, accompanied with a stabbing motion.

He suggested sarcastically that countries that ban guns "should ban cars too", because they are "the new form of death for the maniac terrorists".

Relations with Prime Minister Theresa May cooled past year after she criticised him for retweeting anti-Islam videos by a British far-right group.

Mr Khan, who has previously clashed with Mr Trump over the mayor's response to terrorism, declined to comment on his latest remarks. London topped even NY this year in terms of violent crime statistics.

The director of London's major trauma system said "to suggest guns are part of the solution [to combat knife crime] is ridiculous". They put out an official statement disapproving his statements on Saturday. They have knives and instead there's blood all over the floors of this hospital.
