Vice President Pence visits the southern border in Calexico, Mexico

The Vice President of the United States has visited the border between Calexico (California) and Mexico to inspect the construction of a new border wall and interact with Border Patrol officers.

He is scheduled to be in the Phoenix area Tuesday.

Almost 200 Border Patrol agents joined the Vice President at the Imperial station in Calexico.

Mr Pence's remarks came as he toured a construction site for a barrier in the Californian border town of Calexico, 200km east of the San Diego-Tijuana crossing where the group of at least 150 Latin Americans has amassed.

Pence stressed that border patrol agents are ensuring the asylum seekers are dealt with in a manner that is consistent with our immigration laws.

And he reaffirmed President Trump's promise to build a border wall along the southern U.S.
