Comey dismisses House report that found no Russian Federation collusion

"Sometimes people who have serious credibility problems can tell the truth when they realize that the consequences of not telling the truth in an interview or in the grand jury would be dire", Comey said. The investigative team is "tight as a drum" and speculation on the case isn't valuable despite widespread media coverage, he said. Comey reportedly declined to talk about that investigation with The AP.

Interviewed on NBC's Meet the Press, Comey said the most important investigation into Russian election interference and alleged links between Trump aides and Moscow was being conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Comey, while testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee last summer, said he leaked accounts of the conversations he had with Trump, hoping it would lead to the appointment of a special counsel.

Comey said America is not in a "normal world" under the Trump administration, and that decisions to pardon individuals like Scooter Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, erode the rule of law and would not happen under the average president.

JAMES COMEY: I do not know. "Don't do disastrous things that won't make a difference". "So Jim and I talked about the history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and he and I literally - literally - finished my sentence when I said, there's a fine distinction, Jim, between telling somebody "just so you know" and telling somebody 'just so you know, and don't mess with us.' And I was concerned that the president-elect was going to hear the latter and not the former message and Jim understood that, and I think he did his best". The truth is that Trump started this politicising by firing FBI personnel who refused to swear personal loyalty to him or stop the collusion investigation.

"Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe", Trump tweeted in April.

"Remember, someday, you will have to explain to your grandchildren what you did at this time", he said. "My sense was - I didn't get a sense he knew about those".
