The $533 million prize marked the fourth time the Mega Millions jackpot has surged past half a billion dollars.

Wahl, 47, scored the $533 million Mega Millions prize with a sole ticket he said he made a decision to buy, alongside a diet Coke, with the $22 he had in his pocket while stopping at a Lukoil gas station in Riverdale, New Jersey, on March 29.

He recently moved to the city for work and is not normally a Mega Millions player, as he claims his winning ticket only came from his second time playing!

"The plan is to do a lot of good things with it", he told reporters.

Richard Wahl rarely plays Mega Millions - in fact, he's only ever bought a ticket twice in his life, he said. He spent $20 on quick pick tickets and a Diet Coke just hours before the numbers were drawn.

Wahl explained,"For us, we believe god has a plan. Family, friends, people in need", he said, NorthJersey.com reported. He revealed himself as the mystery victor during Friday's news conference at New Jersey Lottery headquarters in Trenton. They waited tow weeks before coming forward.

Wahl was joined Friday by New Jersey Lottery Acting Executive Director John M. White, and Acting State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio. The owner of the station won $30,000 for selling the winning ticket. In addition, he said he would love to rebuild a 1963 Corvette. But he said he didn't try to contact the lucky ticket holder. I didn't know they draw at 11:00. Wahl also confirmed that he will use the money to help support his mother, who is said to be on "reduced income". He said he was getting on a flight Friday night, but wouldn't say where he was going.

Wahl will receive the cash option of about $317 million after taxes, and will remain as a production manager for AAK Food Service in Hillsborough, N.J., helping the company through a transition that took him to New Jersey last July.

New Jersey's only other appearance on the top-10 Mega Millions winnings list was in 2007 when the state shared a $390 million jackpot with Georgia, according to the Mega Millions website.

It's the 10th largest lottery jackpot in USA history.

New Jersey was the seventh state to join the consortium nearly three years after the game began in the summer of 1996 as the Big Game.
