Seattle's Bill Gates was named the world's most admired man, according to an annual study by YouGov.

Current U.S. President Donald Trump went up in the rankings from past year to take the 17th spot on the list. The women's list features celebrities out of which Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson are known for their humanitarian work.

Angelina Jolie has once again trumped the likes of Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Queen Elizabeth II for the third year in a row, taking out first place as the most admired woman in the world.

Former US presidential couple Barack and Michelle Obama occupy the two second place spots, representing a three-position rise for Michelle and no change for Barack. China's leader Xi Jinping comes in fourth (behind Chinese action star Jackie Chan), while Russia's famously ruthless President Vladimir Putin comes in sixth - ahead of the Dalai Lama in seventh place.

Amitabh Bachchan, Narendra Modi are the other Indian names in the male category. These nominations were then used to compile a list of the 20 men and 20 women who received the most nominations and were nominated in at least four countries.

The male side of the global rankings shows less of a preference for entertainers and more for men in business and politics, as is the case with putting tech pioneer and philanthropist Gates in the no. 1 spot.

The research, which also looks at the public figures country wise, found that Sir David Attenborough and the Queen are Britain's most admired man and woman. The only country where Trump ranked higher than Obama was Russian Federation and by just one place.

All of the surveys were conducted online, and in numerous countries the internet penetration is low to the point where the sample can only be said to be representative to the online population.
